Sherman STEAM
Why Sherman STEAM?
Historically, Sherman has been known as a community school that is driven to be on the cutting edge of science and the arts. This past year, these efforts have culminated with a designation as an 'Innovative School'. The Sherman school community is building rich experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math, while infusing those with the arts. It is through creative problem solving, we will best prepare students to be a 21st Century citizens.
What will look different?
In order to maximize the STEAM experience, we will be doing Project Based Learning (PBL) across all the grade levels. There will be 3 large scale projects taking place throughout this year. In addition, we won't hold traditional parent conferences. Instead teachers will host Parent Nights that will immerse families into their child's learning. You will experience your child presenting information, demonstrating understanding, and addressing real issues.
Q. What is Project Based Learning (PBL)?
A: Project-based learning is a dynamic classroom approach in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire a deeper knowledge.
Q: How will I know my child's academic progress?
A: Teachers will be communicating in multiple ways. If you would like to have a traditional conference, please let your teacher know and they will schedule one for you. However, most of the information you will need about your child can be in an email or phone call. Teachers will work with you to determine the best form of communication for your family.
B: The addition of Parent Nights built on our Project Based Learning will be a new and exciting endeavor. Students will address real world problems and develop potential solutions. To be successful, students will need to collaborate with others, utilize technology, and effectively communicate their ideas.
